Geo-Referenced Image Insertion

What are geo-referenced images?

They are images stored in a graphics format that contains geographic coordinate information, which "maps" the individual images (e.g. aerial photographs, satellite images) to the surface of the real world. This enables the image to be used as an overlay or theme object in a Geographic Information System. Some images include a geographic coordinates system and others require a header containing that information. Such headers are called World files.

Image files can be made into geo-referenced image formats by the addition of a header (World file), which requires exact knowledge of the image dimensions and its proper location on the earth's surface. A World file is a simple text file with the following contents:

• X-pixel size (delta X)
• Y-pixel size (delta Y)
• Rotation term for row (normally zero)
• Rotation term for column (normally zero)
• X-coordinate of center of upper left pixel
• Y-coordinate of center of upper left pixel

Can't AutoCAD® vanilla do it?

AutoCAD® vanilla can not insert image in geo-referenced type. For doing this, AutoCAD® MAP is required. Alternatively, it can be done manually by editing World files with a text editor and by inserting the image with the correct coordinate system.

How does Geo-Referenced Image Insertion do it?

Geo-Referenced Image Insertion offers the possibility to use every kind of World files for any image type. Also, Geo-Referenced Image Insertion creates a list of available images in a specific folder and prompt the user to select each image to be inserted, forming a BATCH and processed all in one operation! This is a real time saver!
